Infineon launches a new generation of ZVS flyback converter chipset, suitable for advanced USB-C PD adapters and chargers
With the increasing popularity of USB-C power transfer (PD) charging technology, the demand for compatible chargers in the entire consumer market is also increasing. Nowadays, users need powerful and compact designed adapters. Infineon Technologies launches the secondary side controlled ZVS flyback converter chipset EZ-PD ™ PAG2 can meet this requirement. This chipset consists of two different models, EZ-PD PAG2P and EZ-PD PAG2S, integrating USB PD, synchronous rectifier, and PWM controller. It can use a Pulse Edge Converter (PET) CYPET121 to ensure efficient communication and isolation between the primary and secondary sides. This product improves efficiency by supporting innovative non complementary active clamp flyback (NCP-ACF) and zero voltage switching quasi resonant flyback (QR-ZVS) topologies, making it suitable for energy-efficient USB-C adapters, chargers, and travel adapters.

EZ-PD_ PAG2
The EZ-PD PAG2 series chipset can provide a universal and efficient power transmission solution for various applications. This chipset supports PD 3.1 standard power range (SPR) with programmable power supply (PPS) and extended power range (EPR) of 28V, enabling fast and reliable charging. At the same time, the chipset is suitable for various powers, compatible with charging protocols such as BC v1.2. AFC, Apple charging, and QC5.0. and supports universal AC line input from 90 VAC to 265 VAC, improving the global availability of this semiconductor device.
This product uses an external SS capacitor to achieve programmable soft start, with controlled power on, discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), critical conduction mode (CrCM) and continuous conduction mode (CCM), as well as burst and jump modes for different load conditions. This adaptability makes it an ideal choice for charging equipment and devices in different regions. The functions of the EZ-PD PAG2 series chipset ensure efficient and flexible power management to meet various needs.
The EZ-PD PAG2 series chipset includes four specialized products:
The secondary side ACF controller EZ-PD PAG2S-AC has efficient energy recovery and USB-PD protocol functionality.
Another ZVS controller, EZ-PD PAG2S-QZ, mainly adopts QR-ZVS flyback architecture and has USB-PD protocol functionality.
The primary high-voltage starting controller EZ-PD PAG2P integrates various functions that can improve system performance, including high-voltage starting, PET receiver, gate driver, and fault protection. The characteristic of EZ-PD PAG2P is that it also has x capacitor discharge function and Vcc boost converter.
The USB PD controller EZ-PD PAG2S-PS with integrated synchronous rectification (SR) can be paired with third-party pulse width modulation (PWM) controllers. Its feature is a parallel voltage regulator that can achieve constant voltage and constant current control through optocouplers. This controller has better SR performance and fast on/off time compared to similar products, and supports volt second integration to prevent incorrect SR conduction.
Supply situation
The EZ-PD PAG2 series chipset has now been launched. EZ-PD PAG2S-QZ and EZ-PD PAG2S-AC use a 32 pin QFN package, while EZ-PD PAG2S-PS uses two packaging methods: a 32 pin QFN package and a 24 pin SOIC package. The EZ-PD PAG2P offers two versions: non x capacitor discharge mode and x capacitor discharge mode, both of which use a 14 pin SOIC package.
