Nordic Semiconductor nPM1300 PMIC enters mass production stage
Semiconductor announced that customers can now purchase the latest released nPM1300 Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) products in bulk through Nordic's distribution network. The nPM1300 currently adopts a Quad Flat No lead Package (QFN) and is about to launch a Chip Scale Package (CSP).

Geir Kjosavik, PMIC Product Director at Nordic Semiconductor, said, "We are delighted to be able to supply nPM1300 PMICs in bulk now, which can be used by customers who originally developed products using Nordic samples or used nPM1300 evaluation kits to quickly advance project development. The nPM1300 PMIC has been warmly welcomed by the market, and we are pleased to announce to all those actively involved in development and design that they can confidently put their end devices into commercial production."
Suitable for battery powered applications
The nPM1300 features two ultra efficient step-down DC-DC converters, two load switches/low-voltage differential voltage converters (LDOs), and integrated battery charging capabilities, making it an ideal choice for battery powered applications. This product integrates circuits that typically require five or more discrete components in a single chip, thereby reducing the Bill of Materials (BoM) of the end product. This circuit includes system management functions and precise electricity meter functions, suitable for low-power wireless applications.
Unique electricity meter function
The electricity meter function of nPM1300 is based on a unique algorithm that uses battery voltage, current, and temperature for monitoring. Its accuracy is higher than that of voltage based electricity meters alone, and its power consumption is lower than that of Coulomb counter type electricity meters. Nordic was the first to achieve such a good balance between high precision and low power consumption, without relying on the electricity meter supplier to analyze the battery before use.
Support provided through nRF Connect SDK
The latest versions of nRF Connect SDK and nRF Connect for Desktop now fully support all features of nPM1300 PMIC. In the final production phase, the nRF Connect SDK now includes drivers for easy integration with new and existing applications based on the nRF Connect SDK.
Integrating PMIC drivers simplifies the development process and enhances the overall experience for developers. In addition, the updated nPM PowerUP application has added all the features of nPM1300 and can choose to export overlay images for use with the nRF Connect SDK application. Users can easily configure nPM1300 through an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) and port the configuration code to system level chips (SoCs) or microcontrollers for integration with application software.
Part of the power management product portfolio
Nordic's power management product portfolio is rich, with nPM1300 complementing nPM1100 (ultra small PMIC for battery charging and power transmission) and nPM6001 (multi rail PMIC for advanced applications).
